7 signs your website needs a redesign

When updates are not enough

By MIAMI WEB AI · 3 min read · Updated October 7, 2026

Every website gets old. These seven signs tell you when updates are no longer enough and a new site is the better buy.

1. Your site is hard to use on a phone

Many of your visitors use a phone. If they have to pinch or zoom to read it, they leave.

To check, open your site on your phone. Try to call, buy or book.

A site built for computers first is hard to fix with updates. It needs a new layout built for phones.

2. Your pages are slow to load

Visitors leave slow pages.

To check, run your homepage through Google PageSpeed Insights. Google's Lighthouse guide calls a score from 0 to 49 poor. That guide was last updated in September 2019.

A slow site can come from heavy code, weak hosting or too many plugins. Small updates do not fix those.

3. Fewer leads from the same traffic

Visitors keep coming. Fewer of them call, buy or book.

To check, compare your leads this year and last year for the same traffic.

A steady drop means the site no longer fits what people expect. That takes new pages and new words.

4. You need a developer for small changes

Your team cannot change a price, add a post or swap a photo without help.

To check, ask your team to make one small change today.

If the site's editor is wrong for you, each patch adds more work. A new site can come with an editor your team can use.

5. The software is old and unsafe

Your site runs on old software. Your host sends warnings. You may have been hacked before.

To check, see if your site software and plugins are current. Ask when someone last checked the site's security.

Software that no longer gets updates cannot be made safe. The site has to move to something that does.

6. Your business changed, but your site did not

Your logo, your services or your prices changed. Your site still shows the old ones.

To check, put your site next to your printed cards and your social pages.

Patching one page at a time leaves the site half old and half new. That mix confuses customers.

7. The sites you compete with are better

Your site looks old, slow or hard to use next to your competitors' sites.

To check, open your top three competitors' sites. Compare speed, looks, the phone view and how easy it is to call or buy.

If their sites beat yours in more than one way, a few updates will not be enough.
